SCORE! Provides More Sessions to Accommodate Busy Summer Schedules
Chicago, March 28, 2006 – Studies show that students lose more than a month of learning over the summer and two and a half months of math knowledge. To avoid this critical learning loss, SCORE! Educational Centers, Inc., a leading provider of after-school learning programs and a subsidiary of the international education leader Kaplan, Inc., offers new, summer-specific programs in a concentrated format to help kids progress during their time off. These flexible summer programs accommodate busy summer schedules, and were developed specifically for summertime learning, based on the results of a 2005 pilot program and on customer feedback.
In fact, a recent independent study found that SCORE! math and reading students average 1 ½ grade levels of progress in the allotted 45 summer hours of instruction (SCORE! Personal Academic Tutoring program, ERS Research, 2005).
“Instead of losing skills, kids have the opportunity to make significant progress over the summer,” said Justin Serrano, president of SCORE!. “Our fun and motivating programs, in a more concentrated environment, let kids forget about any school year challenges and helps them focus - and enjoy learning!”
“So, as you’re getting your children ready for the family camping trip and swimming lessons, don’t forget to help exercise their brains as well. SCORE! students will have the opportunity to make academic progress while they increase their self-confidence, develop goal-setting skills, make new friends -- and have fun!”
Who Needs a Learning Boost?
SCORE! serves all types of students: those who are behind, at and above grade level. SCORE!’s individualized curriculum ensures that students work on material suited to their changing skill levels. Kids who need to catch up work on their skill gaps, and students who need enrichment can work on challenging material to stay engaged and excited about learning.
Parents have several SCORE! Summer Program choices:
Computer-Based Tutoring: SCORE!’s computer-based tutoring adjusts to a child’s changing skill levels in reading, math, writing and other supplemental subjects. Academic coaches work with up to seven children at a time to provide additional instruction and motivation. Summer members have the option of enrolling in either an unlimited package or a 30-visit package, both used on a drop-in basis.
Personal Academic Tutoring: SCORE!’s intensive, personalized curriculum covers reading, writing and math. Students work in groups of up to three and receive individual instruction from a tutor to ensure mastery of concepts. Visits are scheduled and are available at a variety of times to fit busy family schedules.
All SCORE! Summer Programs include in-person parent conferences and a diagnostic and prescriptive assessment to determine the appropriate and personalized curriculum for each child.
Enrollment is starting now at all SCORE! centers nationwide; sessions begin May 15 and end September 30, 2006.
