KAPLAN HIGHER EDUCATION OPENS MARIC COLLEGE, FRESNO EXPANDING CALIFORNIA PRESENCE TO 18 LOCATIONS

Fresno, CA, May 31, 2005 – Kaplan Higher Education today announced the opening of a new Maric College in Fresno, CA.  Located at 44 Shaw Avenue, in the Rodeo Plaza Shopping Center in Clovis.  Maric College – Fresno is the third Maric branch opened in California during the past year.

The new Fresno campus features four medical labs, three computer labs, a four-chair operative dental lab with X-ray, nine lecture rooms, a library and a student lounge.  To design the new 21,000 square foot campus building, school officials worked with an advisory committee of local health care professionals.  As a result, the facility’s labs and equipment closely mirror the type of environment that students will experience in their chosen career fields.

“The EDC is pleased to have helped Kaplan Higher Education select a suitable location for their first school in the Clovis/Fresno area,” said David Spaur, CEcD, President and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation serving Fresno County. “Maric College is a complimentary fit in our marketplace, especially given the need for more trained medical professionals in the Central Valley.”

Maric College - Fresno is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) as a branch location of Maric College, Modesto, CA.

“Maric College’s new location offers the Fresno community educational opportunities in some of the most in-demand employment fields in the state,” said Katie Swanger, Executive Director, Maric College - Fresno.

The school currently offers six different programs, including four diploma programs in Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, and Therapeutic Health Technician; an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice; and an Associate of Occupational Studies in Medical Assisting.

Programs are offered during the day as well as in the evening.  In addition, hands-on courses and a required externship will assist students in developing the skills necessary to compete for entry-level positions.  The school also offers career placement services to help graduates locate job opportunities, fine-tune résumés and enhance interviewing skills.

Maric College – Fresno is licensed to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and offers associate’s and diploma programs.  The next cycle of classes begins on June 21, 2005.

Maric College is one of the largest private postsecondary education providers in the state, serving California students in the allied health field since 1982. In 2004, Kaplan Higher Education renamed all of its California-based locations Maric College.  Maric College now has 18 locations throughout the state, including: Sacramento, Modesto, Stockton, Vista, Los Angeles, Irwindale, Carson, Lake Forest, Anaheim, Riverside, Palm Springs, Pomona, Panorama City, San Diego, San Diego – East County, North Hollywood, Bakersfield, and Fresno.  The schools are accredited by national accrediting agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
