KAPLAN UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES
NEW ONLINE MASTER DEGREES IN
CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Davenport, IA, August 23, 2005 – Kaplan University announced today the introduction of two new graduate programs, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) degree; and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
The Master of Science in Criminal Justice is based upon a dual-track 55 quarter-credit professional model, which combines both theory and real world practice. Specialization areas in both tracks include policing, global criminal justice issues, leadership and executive management, and law. The non-thesis track consists of a practical curriculum in criminal justice, designed for law enforcement professionals seeking advancement in the field. The thesis track focuses on applied research within the profession to prepare students for future academic studies in either advanced research or teaching at the college level.
The Master of Business Administration also offers two academic tracks. The Fast Track consists of a foundational 52 credit curriculum in business, while the Focused Track, at 68 credits, allows students to customize their curriculum in specialization areas including finance; marketing; human resources management; information technology; entrepreneurship; and management, communication, and quality.
Criminal Justice
“The contemporary, dual-track curriculum within the MSCJ is both practical and theoretical,” says Dr. Gene Scaramella, Dean of Kaplan University’s Graduate School of Criminal Justice, ”and creates an exceptional program that serves professionals in the field seeking job advancement, and equips students seeking more research-based opportunities.”
Distinguished scholars for the MSCJ program’s multimedia component include Dr. Louise Shelley, a renowned expert on transnational crime from American University, and Dr. Steven Cox, an expert on criminology and Professor Emeritus at Western Illinois University. Dr. Cox also served as one of the curriculum developers for the program.
MBA
“Kaplan’s new MBA program challenges working business professionals to examine themselves in relation to theories and practices in today’s business world,” said Dr. James M. Dorris, Dean of Kaplan University Graduate School of Business. “It helps them develop personal action plans to assume leadership roles in the business world.”
Distinguished scholars for the MBA program include Claire McCaskill, Auditor for the state of Missouri, an expert on leadership and financial auditing, and Dr. Patricia Werhane, Wicklander Chair of Business Ethics at DePaul University. Dr. Werhane also serves as the Peter and Adeline Ruffin Professor of Business Ethics and Senior Fellow of the Olsson Center for Applied Ethics at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
