Kaplan Higher Education Acquires Professional Careers Institute
Indianapolis School is Kaplan’s Third in State;

Acquisition Expands Campus Network to 70

New York, NY, January 7, 2004 – Kaplan, Inc. today announced that its higher education division has acquired Professional Careers Institute (PCI), a career-oriented post-secondary institution providing training in the fields of allied health, information technology and paralegal studies. The acquisition of the Indianapolis-based school expands Kaplan’s campuses to 70 in 16 states and is the company’s third campus in Indiana.

“This important investment enables us to enter the Indianapolis community and serve its educational and employment needs,” said Gary Kerber, Vice Chairman of Kaplan, Inc. and President & CEO of Kaplan Higher Education Corporation. “We began our expansion into Indiana last year with the acquisition of Sawyer College. Our rapid growth in the state reflects the demand for career-focused educational programs, and we expect that PCI will play a central role in our future growth throughout the Indianapolis market.”

PCI offers associate degrees in Dental Assisting/Administration, Paralegal/Legal Assisting, Massage Therapy/Medical Assisting, Medical Assisting/Administration, Office Administration and Computer Programming. In addition, PCI awards diplomas in Dental Assistant, Massage Therapy, Medical/Dental Office Administration, Medical Assistant and Computer Office Administration. Day and evening classes are offered and students may attend full- or part-time.

Founded in 1967, PCI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). In 2003, PCI was recognized as School of Distinction by ACCSCT. The campus is located at 7302 Woodland Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

For those who qualify, financial assistance at the school is available through Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, and the Federal Family Educational Loan Programs.
