Kaplan Higher Education Enters Indiana with Sawyer College Acquisition

Acquisition of Leading Provider of Career Education in Indiana Expands Kaplan's Network to 64 Locations

Roswell, GA, March 4, 2004 - Kaplan, Inc. today announced its higher education division's acquisition of Sawyer College, a career-oriented postsecondary school providing training in the fields of accounting, information technology, allied health and office management. The acquisition expands the Kaplan Higher Education network to 64 locations in 16 states. Kaplan Higher Education currently serves more than 45,000 students through campus-based schools and online programs.

Operating campuses in Merrillville and Hammond, Indiana, Sawyer College is one of the leading career postsecondary schools in the state's Northwest region, with 675 students currently enrolled. The acquisition marks Kaplan Higher Education's first foray into Indiana.

Founded in 1916, Sawyer College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award certificate and associate degree programs. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals.
