Richard Paulk Named CFO of Kaplan Professional

NEW YORK, February 2, 2004 - Kaplan Professional, a division of global education services provider Kaplan, Inc., announced today that it has appointed Richard Paulk to the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In this role he will oversee financial operations and business development for the division, which provides licensing and continuing education programs for professionals.

Kaplan Professional is a leading provider of licensing, continuing education and certification test prep in areas such as securities, insurance, financial services, technology and real estate. Offering an array of educational tools, from on-site training and classroom instruction to over 400 online courses and programs, Kaplan Professional serves clients who must maintain licenses and comply with regulatory mandates. Over the past five years, Kaplan Professional has grown dramatically, expanding into new markets including architectural licensing and home inspection.

Paulk, 36, will be based in the division's Chicago headquarters.

Paulk joins Kaplan from iPilot, an Illinois-based technology company, where he has served as Chief Operating Officer for five years. While at iPilot, he led the establishment and development of customer and strategic partnerships, performed ongoing analysis of competitors, oversaw the successful development of the iPilot product--from concept stage to product launch-and determined strategic direction for the company.

Previously, Paulk was at Sears Roebuck, where he served as CFO of its Product Services Division, and Manager of Investor Relations. Prior to this, he spent five years at Motorola, where he held a variety of finance and business development positions.

Paulk holds an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a B.A. in psychology from Harvard University.
