Former Assistant Secretary of Education, Named Director of Public Affairs at Kaplan, Inc.
NEW YORK, NY, January 14, 2003 - Kaplan, Inc. has named Rebecca O. Campoverde, former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education, as its Director of Public Affairs, a new position. Ms. Campoverde will be based in Washington D.C. and will coordinate Kaplan's legislative and regulatory interactions with federal and state governments. Kaplan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Washington Post Company, is one of the nation's premier providers of educational services for individuals, schools and businesses.

Ms. Campoverde was Assistant Secretary for Legislation and Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Education through June 2002 and was instrumental to the Department's legislative efforts on the No Child Left Behind Act. Previously, she served as Deputy Staff Director of the Education and Workforce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. She also served in legislative and administrative roles at the U.S. Department of Education during previous administrations.
Ms. Campoverde received a B.S. degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
