Dearborn Financial Services Launches Online Course Addressing New Federal Terrorism Insurance Mandates

Comprehensive P&C Curriculum Addresses Nationwide Licensing, Continuing Education and Professional Development, Including New Cultural Diversity Courses

(Chicago, IL - February 24, 2003) - Dearborn Financial Services, a Kaplan Professional Company, today announced a new property and casualty curriculum that includes one of the first comprehensive courses to address the new federal requirements for property and casualty insurance mandated by the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA).

TRIA, signed into law on November 26, 2002, requires commercial property and casualty insurers conducting business in the United States to offer coverage for incidents of international terrorism. The federal government would be responsible for reimbursing insurers up to $100 billion annually through 2005. The Act produced some immediate effects on commercial insurance coverage and is expected to continue as a significant feature of the domestic insurance marketplace.

Dearborn's "Terrorism Coverage for Commercial Lines" is an online course providing a historical overview of how insurance terrorism coverage has evolved since the recent terrorist attacks. It is designed to help insurance professionals accurately advise policyholders about the new terrorism coverage options now available for commercial lines since the enactment of the TRIA.

"As part of the TRIA, insurance companies have new policyholder compliance requirements that will remain in effect through 2005," said Lynda Nordling, director of property and casualty development, Dearborn Financial Services. "By providing one of the first analyses of the new terrorism coverage options and an explanation of how the marketplace has changed, this course will enable professionals to quickly and effectively address those requirements."

In addition to terrorism coverage education, Dearborn's new curriculum addresses a comprehensive range of issues in nationwide licensing, continuing education and professional development - from "Insurance Fundamentals," to "Cultural Diversity for Insurance Professionals," one of the only diversity-focused P&C courses on the market. The latter course is designed to equip insurance professionals with an increased awareness of the cultural differences that exist in the U.S., help them communicate with diverse groups of people, and to translate cultural diversity into an opportunity for business growth.

"The property and casualty insurance industry has changed drastically over the past few years, partly as a result of the events of September 11, 2001," said Bryan Austin, General Manager of Dearborn Financial Services. "We are proud to be leading the charge to address these changes and help insurance professionals gain the knowledge they need to be successful in this new environment."

The curriculum will boost Dearborn's property and casualty offerings to 22 courses available in all skill levels and formats. By quickly addressing current, relevant issues affecting insurance customers, the new line of courses further establishes Dearborn's leadership in the financial services training and education market.
