Schweser Study Program Launches Comprehensive Prep For Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) Certification
Study Notes And Seminars Include Sample Exams
New York/La Crosse, Wisconsin -- May 16, 2002 -- Schweser Study Program, a Kaplan Professional Company, has introduced preparation courses for Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) candidates. Best known for its widely used Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) courses and materials, Schweser has developed FRM study notes and seminars to assist financial professionals as they prepare for this increasingly popular credential in the global financial risk community. Schweser FRM Study Notes, with sample exams, will be available as of June 10. Additionally, Schweser will hold a weekly seminar in New York City for ten weeks starting in August. Schweser's three-day FRM seminars will be held in October in Boston, New York, Chicago, and Houston.
The FRM designation, first awarded in 1997 by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP®), is a globally recognized standard for professionals in the financial services industry, and indicates that an individual possesses the body of knowledge necessary for independent risk management analysis and decision making.
Risk management professionals such as treasurers, risk analysts, and portfolio managers are relied upon by corporations and institutions to make crucial decisions which can determine the fate of the organization and its investors in periods of financial uncertainty. According to GARP, 2,900 candidates registered for the 2001 exam, a 50 percent increase over the 2000 registration numbers. The annual 5-hour, approximately 140 question, multiple-choice exam will be administered on November 16, 2002 across 35 cities in Africa, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America, and Western and Central Europe.
"Schweser Study Program is excited about our entry into the FRM market. Our materials uniquely offer a comprehensive set of summaries of assigned FRM readings, along with detailed explanations of old exam questions and three sample exams," said Dr. Greg Filbeck, CFA, FRM, and Senior Vice President of Curriculum at Schweser. "In addition, our materials will focus candidates on areas of particular importance in their mastery of the curriculum."
"Our leadership position and expertise in CFA prep makes the FRM exam a logical choice for Schweser Study Program. Our comprehensive approach ensures we give our students an outstanding education as they prepare for the FRM examination," said Dr. Andrew Temte, CFA, President and CEO, Schweser Study Program.
The FRM exam is designed to measure skills and knowledge acquired to a large extent through professional experience in financial risk management or a related field. This includes professionals who are involved in controlling, analyzing, or assessing potential market, credit, and liquidity risks as well as non-market related risks. The questions in the exam are aimed at addressing the practical problems that financial risk management professionals may face on a daily basis. Topics on the exam include: Quantitative and Fixed Income Analysis; Market Risk Management and Capital Markets; Credit Risk Management; Operational and Integrated Risk Management; Legal, Accounting, and Tax Risk Management; and Regulation, Compliance, and Ethics.
Certification as a Financial Risk Manager requires a passing score on the FRM Examination, active membership in GARP, and a minimum of two years of experience in the area of financial risk management or another related field including, but not limited to, trading, portfolio management, academic or industry research, economics, auditing, risk consulting, and/or risk technology.
