Andrew S. Rosen named President of Kaplan, Inc.
New York, February 13, 2002 -- Andrew S. Rosen has been named president of Kaplan, Inc., a leading provider of educational services to individuals, schools and businesses. Kaplan is a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company, (NYSE: WPO).
Rosen, 41, previously served as Kaplan's Chief Operating Officer. During his tenure, the company grew from $94 million in revenue in 1996 to $494 million in 2001. During that period Kaplan expanded to become a broad provider of educational services providing test preparation, K12 services for students and for schools, post-secondary education and professional training.
"Andy has been a key driver behind Kaplan's growth and financial performance over the last decade," said Jonathan Grayer, Chairman and CEO of Kaplan. "He has been instrumental in ensuring the excellence of the Kaplan student experience, and has helped us to diversify into critical new program areas."
Rosen came to The Washington Post Company in 1986 as a staff attorney for The Washington Post newspaper. He moved to Newsweek as Assistant Counsel in 1988 before coming to Kaplan in 1992. At Kaplan he served as Center Administrator, Regional Director, and Vice President, Field Management prior to assuming the role of Chief Operating Officer in early 1997.
Before joining The Washington Post Company, Rosen served as law clerk to the Hon. Levin H. Campbell, Chief Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, in Boston. Rosen holds an A.B. degree from Duke University and a J.D. from the Yale Law School.
