Kaplan College Expands Online Paralegal Studies Program With New Pathway To Paralegal Certificate

New York, NY, August 30, 2002
- Aspiring paralegals can now tap into a new online tool for professional development: the Pathway to Paralegal Certificate, launched by Kaplan College. Designed to provide students with a solid overall understanding of the American legal system and, in particular, increase their knowledge of the paralegal profession and the skills required to work in the field, the Pathway to Paralegal Certificate was developed for those seeking an introduction to the field of paralegal study and employment.

Courses provide insight into the civil litigation process, including fact gathering and investigation; case management and strategy; pleadings; motions; preparing for trial, trial procedures, and post trial procedures. Students are also taught about legal ethics, as well as how to conduct legal research, appraise and evaluate legal sources and incorporate these sources into relevant legal arguments.

"In evaluating the growing online education market, we realized there is an under-serviced market for people who are thinking about joining the paralegal profession," said Robert Greenberg, President of Kaplan Higher Education Online. "Given our knowledge and expertise in providing online programs in paralegal studies, we created this program for the aspiring paralegals who are looking for a post-degree certificate for entry-level employment."

The Pathway to Paralegal Certificate includes asynchronous classes, web field trips, online seminars, various writing projects and synchronous interaction with faculty and peers. The program is comprised of six core courses - Paralegalism Today, Civil Litigation I, Civil Litigation II, Contracts, Legal Research and Legal Ethics - as well as electives. Students must complete 36 total credit hours to earn the certificate.

Application to the Pathway to Paralegal Certificate is open to students who have completed high school or have attained their GED. Applicants must complete the Kaplan College admissions process to qualify, including the self-evaluation, admissions exam, application for admission, admissions interview, deposit fee, written requests for all official transcripts, financial documents, and enrollment agreement.
