Kaplan Higher Education Expands Office Space to Accommodate Growing Online Business and Staff
Plans to Create More than 200 Jobs in Boca by 2004
BOCA RATON, Fla. August 15, 2002 -- Reflecting the company's plans for continued growth in its online higher education businesses, including a doubling of staff in Boca Raton over the next two years, Kaplan Higher Education, a unit of Kaplan, Inc. and a subsidiary of the Washington Post Co., has just signed a lease for an additional 18,000 square feet of office space at the company's headquarters at 6409 Congress Avenue, which it moved into just last summer. This brings the total office space to 45,000 square feet and will allow Kaplan to continue the rapid growth of its online operations in Boca Raton - creating more than 200 jobs within the next two years.
The expansion comes as a welcome move in the wake of a depressed local job market. According to numbers released last month by the state, 164,612 residents in the tri-county area are unemployed. Kaplan Higher Education, which currently employs 212 people at its Boca Raton location, offers online programs in business, IT and law-related fields. Over the past year, it has nearly doubled the size of its staff. Kaplan serves over 17,000 distance learning students currently.
"The increasing demand for post-secondary schooling as well as a growing market for online education are driving enrollments," said Robert Greenberg, president of Kaplan Higher Education Online. "As a result, we are continuing to add staff for a variety of functions including admissions, student services, financial aid, academic advising, faculty and technology operations. Even with this expansion, we anticipate the need to seek additional office space next year."
Thomas A. Dean of Cushman & Wakefield negotiated the seven-year lease on behalf of Kaplan, Inc.
