Kaplan College to Offer Online Associate Degree Program in Computer Information Systems

- Comprehensive, High-Quality Curriculum Will Open Doors to Growing IT Field -

NEW YORK, September 25, 2001 - Kaplan College announced today that it will begin offering a regionally accredited Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems degree (AAS-CIS) both online and in a classroom format at its Davenport, Iowa campus. The program, which expands on the success of Kaplan College's existing online and classroom-based IT programs, prepares students for entry into the ever-expanding IT field.

Today's IT-reliant economy has fueled a demand for highly skilled computer programmers and network administrators. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2000-01 Edition, employment in the computer and data processing services industry is projected to grow 117% between 1998 and 2008, making it the nation's fastest growing industry.

Kaplan College's regionally-accredited AAS-CIS program will provide students with the knowledge and technical skills required for entry into this growing field. In creating this program, Kaplan College, as a unit of Kaplan, Inc., has been able to capitalize on more than 60 years of experience providing high-quality educational programs to professionals.

"Kaplan College's AAS-CIS program will open doors to the lucrative IT field for people who traditionally have been shut out of it because they lacked the necessary experience or training," said Robert Greenberg, General Manager, Kaplan College. "We offer a rigorous, yet highly flexible, program that will give students a chance to launch fulfilling careers in this exciting industry."

Students in the 92-credit degree learn the concepts and skills necessary to network computers, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, manage data, and develop Internet Web pages. Depending on their career goals, students can concentrate in programming, network administration, or Web development. The program's courses provide the background, understanding, and skills in areas measured by the CompTIA entry-level certification exams (A+, Network+, and I-Net+) and portions of the World Organization of Webmaster's Certified Professional Webmaster exams.

"The online and residential programs enable students across the country and throughout the world to take advantage of Kaplan College's effective, hands-on IT curriculum," said Daniel Abbasi, President, Kaplan College School of Information Technology. "Online and classroom-based courses are individually designed by faculty experts to take full advantage of opportunities for interaction, research, and simulation. Course activities include readings, lectures, Web field trips, group projects, discussions and assessments."
