New Book Shows Families How to Conquer the Cost of College

New York, NY (November 2001)- The total cost of four years at many private colleges is already over $132,000, and the cost could well be over $150,000 in just a few years. These numbers are enough to make parents and students wonder how they'll ever afford college. That is why Kaplan Publishing has just published Conquer the Cost of College: The Family Guide to Meeting College Costs. This straightforward guide provides parents and students with expert advice on navigating all aspects of the financial aid process.

College tuition rates are rising at more than twice the rate of inflation. A recent Gallup & Robinson survey shows that parents see their children's college education as one of their highest financial priorities, yet 50 percent said they have saved less than half the necessary cost. Luckily, the majority of college students are eligible for some sort of financial assistance-if they know how and where to find it.

Filled with sample financial aid forms, user-friendly worksheets, timetables, and indexes, Conquer the Cost of College is an indispensable resource for students applying to college. In clear, understandable language, Conquer the Cost of College shows parents and students how to find the information they need by providing easy-to-follow steps for every aspect of paying for college, including:

How to calculate the real cost of college, including room and board books, fees, transportation, and more
How to navigate the financial aid process and negotiate for financial aid
How to obtain federal, state, and private grants and loans
How to develop a personal action plan that will help families master the aid process and create the most effective college financial package
