Kaplan Internet Enhances New Books with:CRQ Technology; Leading Provider of Educational and Career Services Strikes Deal With Digital:Convergence-TM- Corporation

NEW YORK, June 4, 2001 --Beginning in July, Kaplan, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Washington Post Company, will Internet enhance three of its top selling books: College Catalog 2002, SAT & PSAT 2002 and ACT, 6th Edition books with :CRQ(TM) technology from Digital:Convergence Corporation. :CRQ ("See Our Cue") technology uses embedded cues, which look like product codes, to create an instant link from the printed page to targeted online information.

By including these cues in its books, Kaplan can connect college-bound students directly to online resources such as additional test material on kaptest.com, college applications, financial aid services, test registration information, and the "Best College Web Sites" as chosen by a national survey of high school guidance counselors.

"We continue to explore new ways to enhance the experiences of students who prepare for college admission with Kaplan," said Trent Anderson, vice president for Publishing and e-Ventures at Kaplan, Inc. ":CRQ technology affords a tremendous advantage to these consumers by directly linking our published materials to the rich resources on kaptest.com for additional Kaplan preparation materials and to college admissions and learning network sites on the Web."

Print cues can be inserted into most print material and are read through the :CRQ software with a hand-held :CueCat(TM) device, which translates the cues, taking readers precisely to a specific Web page designated by the publisher or advertiser, eliminating the input of lengthy URLs and time-intensive Web navigation. The :CRQ and :CueCat technologies are free to consumers at any one of the more than 7,000 RadioShack retail outlets across the U.S. The :CueCat device can also read any UPC or ISBN symbol on a product, making it instantly interactive with the Internet.
