SCORE! Opens 100th After-School Educational Center
San Francisco-Based Learning Center Company Celebrates Exponential Growth Nationwide;
100th Location Opens in Ellicot City, MD
San Francisco, Jan. 11, 2000 -- SCORE! Educational Centers, the nation's fastest-growing after school learning company, is marking the start of the new millennium with the opening of its 100th center nationwide in Ellicot City, MD. With its innovative after-school learning model, SCORE! has taken off across the country, serving 30,000 kids and opening a new center every two weeks in 1999. In 2000, SCORE! will continue aggressive expansion, opening a new location every ten days.
Eschewing the staid format of traditional after-school tutoring, SCORE! combines education technology, a proven curriculum, academic role models and a motivational approach to engage and encourage students in grades K-9, helping them to build academic skills, confidence, goal-setting abilities and a love of learning. Using an interactive curriculum that adapts to each student's academic needs and learning style, SCORE! centers serve all kinds of students, including many who are at or above grade level. When students do well on a lesson, they celebrate their success by shooting a basket or two at a hoop in the center. SCORE! "tutors" are full-time, energetic Academic Coaches, graduates of the nation's top universities, who provide positive reinforcement and create an exciting environment for learning.
"Our goal at SCORE! is to help kids develop a love of learning, and we've found that our unique approach has resonated with families nationwide, in communities as diverse as Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn and Beverly Hills, California," said Rob Waldron, chief executive officer of SCORE! Learning Corporation, the parent company of SCORE! Educational Centers. "We have filled a void for many parents seeking after-school programs that will be both fun and productive for their kids."
SCORE! Educational Centers has also become a hot place to work, offering a highly appealing combination of business experience, education and community service. In 1999, SCORE! had over 12,000 applicants for just 200 positions.
"SCORE! staff believe passionately in what they're doing--making a difference in children's lives," added Waldron. "They also value the rich professional development, clear growth track and experience running a small business that SCORE! provides."
