Northeastern University College Student Wins $25,000 For Tuition to Graduate School in the "Kaplan Gets You In and Pays Your Way" Sweepstakes

Kaplan Encourages All Graduate School-Bound Students To Consider for Fall 2000

February 15, 2000 -- Looking for extra money to cover a substantial portion of your first year of grad school? So was Angela Ficken, whose search ended this week when she was awarded $25,000 towards tuition for graduate school from Kaplan, one of the nation's premier education and career services companies. A new program introduced last Fall, the "Kaplan Gets You In and Pays Your Way" Sweepstakes, is open to individuals who plan to attend law school, medical school, business school, dental school or graduate school (masters or PhD programs) in the United States. Over 4,000 students entered the Kaplan's contest for the first year.

"I am thrilled to be the recipient of Kaplan's sweepstakes award which will help pay for my masters degree in clinical counseling," said Ficken. "While I will probably apply for financial aid assistance, this large sum of interest-free money from Kaplan will make a huge difference in helping me complete my studies and achieve my ultimate dream of getting my PhD in clinical psychology."

A 20-year-old junior majoring in psychology at Northeastern, Ficken entered the Kaplan sweepstakes at the annual College Fest in Boston last October at the Hynes Convention Center. She plans to get her masters degree in clinical counseling and is considering programs at schools such as Arizona State, University of Florida and Boston College. Ficken is interested in studying eating disorders and is currently working on an in-depth research project on outpatient therapies for young women with anorexia. Ficken grew up in the Roxbury area of Boston and attended Newton South High School.

"Kaplan is proud to announce the first winner of the "Kaplan Gets You In and Pays Your Way Sweepstakes," said John Polstein, President of Kaplan Test Prep. "As the nation's leader in test preparation and admissions for graduate-bound students, our new Sweepstakes is one more way we help aspiring students pursue their academic interests. We hope that next year even more student from around the world will enter Kaplan's Sweepstakes."

Kaplan encourages anyone seeking to go to graduate school to enter "Kaplan Gets You In and Pays Your Way Sweepstakes" for Fall of 2000. In August, students can look for more information on entry forms by calling 1-800-KAP-TEST or visiting the website at www.kaptest.com.
