KaplanCollege.com Introduces Online Instructor-Led Continuing Education Courses for Nurses

New York (August 2, 2000)
– KaplanCollege.com's School of Nursing announced today that it will offer online instructor-led continuing education courses for nurses taught by experienced nurse educators. KaplanCollege.com is a division of Kaplan, Inc. -- a leader in the NCLEX test preparation market. For each nursing course completed, students can earn contact hours of continuing education credit. These CE contact hours are recognized by all states requiring continuing education except California and Iowa. Early next year, subject to receiving the required regulatory approvals, the School of Nursing also plans to offer an online Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program which will provide nurses holding associates degrees in nursing and nursing diplomas with the courses they need to obtain a BSN degree.

"For nurses, continuing education is a necessity to stay on the cutting edge of health care knowledge," said Judith Burkhardt, President, KaplanCollege.com School of Nursing. "Nurses' schedules are often erratic. KaplanCollege.com's online nursing program offers them the flexibility to take high-quality continuing education courses at their convenience. Our courses will help nurses develop the strong critical thinking skills they need, and provide a wealth of current information and resources that will enrich their professional experience."

"In creating this program, we recognized the importance of the interaction found in instructor-led classes in that it enhances the overall online learning experience for nurses," said Bill Rosenthal, President of KaplanCollege.com. "We believe that we are the first to offer instructor-led online CE courses and are delighted to be providing nurses everywhere with access to classes that they need to succeed in today's health care environment."

The School of Nursing will offer a variety of continuing education courses such as Preventative Health Screening and Education of Young Adults, Decision Making for Nurses, and Self-Care and the Elderly which offer practical knowledge and skills that nurses can immediately put into practice.

In addition, KaplanCollege.com's School of Nursing also offers courses and programs in Legal Nurse Consulting for nurses interested in shifting their nursing career focus. Offerings include a Legal Nurse Consulting Diploma, accredited by the Distance and Education Training Council (DETC), as well as individual classes in Legal Nurse Consulting. These classes are designed for practicing nurses interested in gaining legal training to enable them to work with attorneys and other professionals in a variety of settings.

The KaplanCollege.com School of Nursing is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Missouri Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).
