Survey Finds that Kansas State University Takes Stanford's Spot as the "Trendiest" School
New York (August 1, 2000) – The results are in from the exclusive annual Kaplan National High School Guidance Counseler Survey and the trend is clear local colleges are hot!
Published this month, in the Kaplan/Newsweek College Catalog 2001, the survey asked counselors across the country targeted questions to tap the collective wisdom of this influential group. Across the board, the data showed that local is in; Kansas State University takes Stanford’s spot as the trendiest school; if counselors could repeat their college years, they would choose Notre Dame; and University of the Pacific was selected as a hidden treasure.
In addition to University of the Pacific, these experts believe that the best schools aren't necessarily the most famous ones. Guidance counselors recommend these "hidden treasures" - terrific schools that aren't as well known as they should be. Rounding out their “Top 10” in this category are:

Building upon the success of last year’s Guidance Counselor Survey, College Catalog 2001 utilizes the unbiased professional survey expertise of Market Measurement, a national market research firm. Market Measurement utilized a pure random sample of U.S. public, private and Catholic High Schools obtained from Dun & Bradstreet. The foundation of the survey was telephone interviews distributed evenly across the sample providedwith high school guidance counselors. Upon completion, the data were weighed to match the percentages of schools in each region of the country. In addition to the statistical information, guidance counselors were invited to share insights about the colleges with which they were most familiar. Many of their comments are included in the Catalog.
