SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH DEAN HEALTH SYSTEM
The agreement will give online Wisconsin students access to 60 clinics
Davenport, IA, Jan. 9, 2008— The Kaplan University School of Health Sciences today announced an agreement with Wisconsin-based Dean Health System. The agreement will provide students in Kaplan University’s Medical Assisting, Medical Transcription and Medical Office Management programs with online learning and onsite, hands-on clinical instruction in Wisconsin medical facilities.
“We are rapidly gaining ground in securing sites for our students and ensuring successful, quality experiences for both the students and clinics,” said Keith L. Smith, Ed.D., Dean of Kaplan’s School of Health Sciences. “Providing sites within reasonable driving distance for our online students is a responsibility that we take seriously.”
All three Kaplan University programs have required externships built into the academic program. Medical Assisting students are required to complete three different clinical courses for a total of 200 hours. Medical Transcription students must complete a 160-hour externship and Medical Office Management students have to complete 90 hours. Dean Health System owns and operates approximately 60 clinics and medical facilities that provide primary, specialty and tertiary care in southern Wisconsin. Kaplan will begin placing students with Dean Health System in January.
