First Kaplan University Learning Center Opens in Milwaukee
Kaplan Higher Education Launches New Blended-Learning Facility
MILWAUKEE, Oct. 29, 2009—Kaplan University’s first Learning Center, an instructional and support services site, began offering center-based classes this month in Milwaukee. The Center will help serve the community’s need for business-focused education by introducing a blended-learning model, combining online and campus-based instruction for students seeking bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Center also provides on-site support services to area Kaplan University online students, allowing for greater student flexibility, convenience and personalization. The Learning Center, located at 201 W. Wisconsin Ave., is Kaplan Higher Education’s second institution in the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
“This center represents one of the many ways we are continually seeking to better our student experience and support our local communities’ needs for an educated workforce,” said Jeff Conlon, president and CEO of Kaplan Higher Education. “Kaplan University Learning Centers combine proven online learning and curriculum with the added benefits and resources of a brick-and-mortar location.”
Led by Executive Director Jerry Langfeldt, the Kaplan University Learning Center offers general education courses and support services designed to assist Kaplan University students’ transition into the online school environment. The Kaplan University Learning Center’s facility consists of five classrooms that can collectively accommodate approximately 150 full-time students at any given time. The new location features a student resource center along with full-time admissions, financial and academic advising offices that offer in-person support for new and existing students.
“Opening this center in the Milwaukee area will allow us to better serve local residents looking to transition into the online education environment,” Langfeldt said. “We offer a unique integration of online and in-person support that empowers students to achieve their life-long personal and professional goals.”
Prior to joining Kaplan, Langfeldt served as a director of management information systems for Educational Services of America and a training manager at Ombudsman Educational Services. Langfeldt earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Cornell College and holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg school of Management.
Kaplan University currently offers more than 100 academic programs in fields including business, legal studies, nursing, education, criminal justice, information technology and health care. Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
