Kaplan University Announces Opening of New South Florida Location to Accommodate Growing Student Body

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Oct. 12, 2009—Kaplan University today announced the opening of a new facility in Plantation, FL, to support its growing student ranks. This is the University’s fourth new location in two years, and it comes just 10 months after the opening of its Orlando facility, a 124,000-square-foot space that houses student support and admissions staff.
“At Kaplan University, we are committed to providing our students with a high level of personalized service to help make their academic experience a successful one,” said Gregory Marino, President of the Kaplan University Group. “As more and more students enroll with us, we will continue to build our staff and facilities to preserve the supportive community that they have come to expect from Kaplan.”
With the economy in recession, many Americans are returning to school to shore up their academic credentials. Enrollment at Kaplan, which has risen steadily since 2001, increased 45 percent during the first half of 2009. The University serves more than 55,000 online students.
The new Plantation site, a four-story building located at 1601 SW 80th Terrace, will house admissions officers and online student support staff, as well as a Kaplan University Learning Center designed to provide face-to-face support to local online students. The site will also house some Kaplan Virtual Education employees, who serve sixth through 12th grade students who attend Kaplan’s public and private online middle and high schools.
Approximately 265 employees are moving into the building this week with hundreds more slated to move in through spring 2011. The first wave of employees includes both new hires and transfers from other South Florida Kaplan locations.
The University has online student support centers around the country, including locations in Orlando, Chicago, Phoenix, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale. Support center employees provide admissions, student advising, financial aid and technical support for Kaplan’s online students. The University opened its first offices in South Florida in 2000 with 65 employees and today has more than 2,800 in South Florida, and more than 8,000 nationwide.
Kaplan University also has 10 ground campuses in Iowa, Nebraska and Maryland, where approximately 4,000 students attend classes at traditional brick-and-mortar facilities.
