KAPLAN UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE MASTER’S IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Davenport, IA, April 28, 2008—Kaplan University today announced the launch of its new online Master’s of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree program, designed to help IT professionals enhance or specialize their technology skills and build business acumen to take on leadership roles.

“According to the Department of Labor, IT security has emerged as an increasingly vital issue facing corporate as well as governmental organizations. Firms, nationally and internationally, want to hire IT professionals who are able to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and key management skills,” said Kamal Dahbur, Ph.D., Dean of Kaplan University’s School of Information Systems and Technology. “The Kaplan program provides a broad range of information technology, leadership and project management courses, designed to give students the skills they will need to achieve success in business.”

Students in the Kaplan University online MSIT program can choose to specialize in one of two emphasis areas — Information Security and Assurance or Decision Support Systems. The 48-quarter credit hour program can be completed within approximately 1.5 years. The curriculum includes courses such as Computer and Network Security, Computer Forensics and Investigations, and Management of Information Security. It is meant to prepare students for Chief Information Officer (CIO), IT Security Officer, MIS Director and other leadership positions.

The information technology field is expected to grow between 14 and 20 percent through 2016, according to the Department of Labor. Job prospects for IT managers are excellent given the ever-evolving nature of IT, its growing importance in business and a limited supply of employees with technical savvy. Salaries, which can range from the mid $60,000s to the mid $100,000s, vary based on specialty and level of responsibility, according to the Department of Labor.

Enrollment is now open and classes, which will be offered completely online, begin on July 2. For more information about this program, visit http://kaplan.edu/ku/schools/it.
