Kaplan Medical Receives Student National Medical Association Award

Recognizes Kaplan’s Support in Providing Professional Test Preparation to Minority Medical Students

New York (April 26, 2000) -- Kaplan Medical, a division of Kaplan, Inc., the nation’s premier educational and career services company, was recognized by the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) for outstanding support and partnership in medical test preparation for minority students at SNMA’s 35th Annual Medical Education Conference, held in Los Angeles, CA last weekend. The SNMA is the country’s largest minority medical student association, whose 5,000 members include medical students from a majority of the US medical schools as well as undergraduate pre-medical students.

SNMA’s immediate-past Chairman of the Board of Directors, Patrick Hines, MD/PhD candidate, presented Kaplan with the award for Partnership with the SNMA in providing professional test preparation to SNMA high school, college, and medical student members. "It has been a pleasure working with Jessica and Kaplan this year," noted Dr. Hines. "I have received tremendous positive feedback from the SNMA membership on their appreciation for Kaplan’s willingness to support minority medical test preparation, and the quality of their service." Kaplan supports minority medical education via 60 scholarships each year for test preparation for the USMLE, MCAT, SAT and ACT, which significantly assists our members to succeed in the medical school application process.

Kaplan Medical additionally supports the ten SNMA Regional meetings, the Journal of the Student National Medical Association, and the National Conference by exhibiting and providing advice and direction to its students. Kaplan Medical is the only education services provider endorsed by the SNMA.

"Kaplan Medical is proud to support the SNMA, an organization who maintains the highest level of professionalism and commitment to minority affairs and community service," said Jessica Hirshon, Project Manager for Medical Programs with Kaplan Medical, who accepted the award. "We have been continually impressed by the students with whom we interact, and we appreciate their positive reception at this conference to our new products."

Hundreds of the attendees visited the Kaplan Medical booth for live demonstrations of Kaplan Medical’s new online USMLE database, Qbank, the only method currently available which enables medical students to custom design their own practice tests, track their personal performance by subject area and measure test-taking behavior such as answer-changing. The product is now available for the USMLE Step 1 exam, which the majority of the 17,000 second year US medical students will be taking in June and July.
