DestinationLawSchool.com Provides Real-Life Legal Scenarios and the Research Tools Needed to Solve Them

New York, NY/Eagan, MN -- June 25, 2001 -- Kaplan, Inc., the leading provider of LSAT preparation and the parent of Concord University School of Law, the nation's only entirely online law school, and West Group, the foremost provider of e-information and solutions to the U.S. legal market, have jointly launched DestinationLawSchool.com, a free Web-based program that provides valuable insight into the legal research process typically used in law school and legal practice.

As part of the program, distinguished Harvard Law Professor Arthur Miller conducts online lectures that describe real-life legal problems and the research skills needed to solve them. In his lectures, Miller uses the powerful technology of Westlaw®, West Group's leading online research service for legal, tax, accounting and business professionals.

DestinationLawSchool.com offers unique interactive modules that mimic the steps a law student or legal professional follows to research a legal problem. DestinationLawSchool.com consists of five "Inside Track" modules that demonstrate how the law is organized, the basics of online legal research and how to use Westlaw. The five modules are

Miller, who is also a Supplementary Lecturer at Concord University School of Law, presents the first four "Inside Track" lectures. Additional discussions are led by Concord University School of Law Professor William Weston. Carolyn Weaver, senior instructional designer, Academic Segment Marketing, West Group, teaches the final module in which students get hands-on legal research experience.

"West Group's partnership with Kaplan will help educate those interested in the legal profession about the practice of law," said Tim Blevins, senior director, Academic Segment Marketing, West Group. "West Group's premier legal research service, Westlaw, is used by legal and corporate professionals worldwide. DestinationLawSchool.com offers law students and others a glimpse at the many ways Westlaw is used to conduct legal research and an insight into how legal issues are analyzed and resolved."

For example, the thought, analysis and debate required to build and argue a case are based on and supported by research. DestinationLawSchool.com offers those interested in law the chance to consider actual legal situations and then learn about the accompanying research required to solve the problems, enabling them to experience the process typically undertaken by attorneys.

"Kaplan has long been helping students achieve their dreams of going to law school, be it through guidance throughout the admissions process or access to an online legal education through Concord Law School," said Andrew Rosen, Esq., COO of Kaplan, Inc., and provost of Concord Law School. "DestinationLawSchool.com extends our interest in legal education and is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about legal research and its application to legal problems. Competent and effective legal research is the key to solving client problems. West Group provides the best tools for that research, which is why we based this program around Westlaw."
