Is It Possible That Music, Movies, TV, Sports, History and the News are Helpful to High School Students?
A New Book Says They Can Be!!!

 SAT MATH MANIA
Learn the 100 Most Frequently Tested Math Concepts through Music, Movies, TV, Sports, History, and the News
By Chris Kensler

New York, October 2000 - Parents and teachers are often frustrated when teenagers say, "Math is just not my thing." Meanwhile, they can compare sports stats with ease, track what movies starred Bruce Willis and how they did at the box office, and tell you immediately how many members of "boy bands" have short hair. SAT Math Mania (Kaplan, Inc. and Simon & Schuster; October 2000; $15.00), a new book from Kaplan Publishing, taps teens' knowledge of pop culture and translates it into mastery of math concepts critical to perform well on the SAT.

SAT Math Mania offers a review of the 100 key SAT Math concepts by applying them to topics sure to appeal to today's pop culture-savvy teens, including hit TV shows, sports stars like Derek Jeter and Kobe Bryant, the films of Mike Myers, rock 'n roll legends, and more. Author Chris Kensler uses the phenomenon of dot com millionaires to explain multiplying polynomials, action, comedy and animated movie grosses to explain averages, and bottled-water-as-a-fashion-accessory to explain how to measure the volume of a cylinder.

Kaplan's SAT Math Mania is an innovative approach to test preparation. Based on national math standards, the activities and questions are also filled with humorous pop culture references that will keep students entertained as they learn. This collection of short, easy-to-manage activities is perfect for students who learn best in focused, concentrated practice sessions.

The answer to a parent's prayer, SAT Math Mania introduces and reinforces the 100 most important SAT Math concepts in short, easy-to-manage activities that teens can relate to. Parents will look totally hip to their children when they offer this witty and trendy preparation title.
